27th March 2010
Overcast with some passing drizzle at times this morning. Didn't stop the Chiffchaffs singing with at least 9 spread out around the park. No sign of the Wigeon this week but during the scan of the main lake picked up my first Sand Martins of the year over the south side, approx 60 in total. The Black Swan was back on the main lake.
Down at the Finger Lakes 4 Tufted Dicks remain (3m1f) and a single male Gadwall was present. Two Little Grebe on west fingers and 2 Great Crested Grebes, 1 on nest. There also appeared to be a Coot on a nest in the reeds opposite the last fishing swim on the Spit. A single male Bullfinch was seen along the Spit and a party of 8 Redwing were flushed from the closed section of the Spit.
Around by the Navigation channel three Great Spotted Woodpeckers had a squabble.
Nothing much until one of the singing Chiffs at the north end of the Woodland Walk. A couple of Redwing were seen in the enclosure by the Sheep Pen. No sign of Frogs, Toads or any Spawn around Fingers yet. Blackcap along the north side of Fingers and a single Swallow spotted high over the Rough.
Single Grey Wagtail on the Canoe Slalom and a Blackcap in the plantation opposite. A Treecreeper on the Silver Birch behind the main lake hide. 24 Teal on Fenlake being very vocal. Single Pied Wagtail in the north east corner, near the Beefeater.
